For Dave's parents 40th wedding anniversary, we invited Ed & Deb to travel to New York City for the first time. Ed & Deb have been to Paris, Rome, Sydney, San Francisco...but never New York! We invited them to drive to Scranton and hang there for a weekend, before heading into the city. All the kids help plan an itinerary and made it feel special for their anniversary.
They arrived on Friday evening as the first guests to the N&D BnB (Nadine and Dave Bed and Breakfast), and we headed to the scenic Maiolatesi Winery. We had a great view of the sunset, and shared pizza and vino. It was a great start to the trip.
On Saturday we had a surprise visit to the nearby site of Woodstock! The famous concert in 1968. Surprisingly it was only ~2 hours from Scranton, so we brought Ed & Deb back to their roots of Love & Peace. We toured the museum and the grounds, and enjoyed a picnic lunch overlooking the site of the original concert. It was great to learn all about such a historic event in America Pop Culture. We got home to watch some football and play a little eurche.
Sunday morning we stayed in town, and visited the infamous Lackawanna Coal Mine. Dad loved it for the geology and rocks, and we all enjoyed traveling down below the city. The tour was a great success, we had a local tour guide who had been a coal miner for years and had a great Pennsylvania accent. We learned all about the history of the area, and coal mining served as a pioneer in the area of workers rights.
We got home and got ready for a busy week! Ed & Deb were headed to NYC, while Dave was flying out to California for work. The plan was all meet in NYC Thursday evening at Penn Station. Never a dull moment will this group!
