Again, this note is a little late...but while album organizing this weekend I came across the photos from my 2015 Oktoberfest day-trip...enjoy!
So in between the weekend in Berlin with my parents (Sept 20) and flying back to USA for Nadine's Defense (Oct 4)...I took a train to Munich to experience Oktoberfest! And yes, Oktoberfest starts in September...and ends in early October.
I biked from Herzo, and hopped an early train to Munich to beat the rush. The Munich train station was in full decor, which was real fun. And the grounds were a short walk from the train, which was nice.
Before settling down at a tent to indulge in the Oktoberfest activities...I scurried in and out of the 14 tents (Only local brewers are allowed to have a tent, so thats why its a small number). Each tent is a massive, wooden-built structure designed to hold 1000s at a time. They are fully decorated in Bavarian themes, with a special stage for the band. But once they are full, a line will que-up outside.
By 11am, I had seen all the tents, and settled on the Lowenbrau tent. Seats were filling up fast, and you must have a seat to order a beer. The only standing-room place is in the Hofbrau house tent...which is uncomfortably packed, as expected.
So I found a lively table with 4 german boys & 3 ladies in their 20s, 2 french men in their 30s, and 1 unproperly dressed, but thirsty American. They were very friendly, as we drank, the fun continued. People stood to chug a beer (and the crowd judged)...the band paraded in....and of course, I had a full beer spilled on me. But it didn't matter, it was Oktoberfest! (Also, only 1 type of beer is served...Mass beer...and its 6%!)
By 2pm (after 3 one liter beers and numerous songs), I had to make a choice...and I chose wisely to head on back home. I got back to the train station, and ended up napping on the way home :)
When I got back to Herzo...it was only 7 more days to see Nadine...after 21 weeks apart.
