On Sunday night, Nadine headed to NYC to get her new passport for the upcoming Honeymoon to Africa. She stayed with a high school friend, Rian Morgan, and his wife in New Jersey.
In the morning Nadine got her passport in the queue, and then she had some time while it was being processed, so she decided to head to Ellis Island! She hopped on a ferry, made the trip near Lady Liberty, then set foot where her ancestors did ~100 years ago. She explored the grounds, and then had to head back to get her passport, and then back to Scranton.

Oct 29 - Philly Penitentiary
We woke up to pouring rain on Sunday, but we had plans to still the sites. We first stopped off at the famous Eastern State Penitentiary. We took a full tour of the grounds and enjoyed exploring all of the halls and prison cells that have a rich history, including Al Capone's cell!
Our final stop of the weekend was the outside of the Art Museum. The famous back drop for the Rocky Movies. Nadine & Dave ran the stairs together, and overlooked all of Philadelphia.
We then hopped in our car headed back out of the city where we parked Nadine's car. Nadine then headed to NYC to get her passport, and Dave headed back to Scranton. It was a great weekend!

Oct 28 - Philly Liberty
We had an action packed day of learning about the history of the city. We found breakfast at a local coffee shop and a local Halloween 5k ran by! Great start to the day.
Our first stop was an Independence Hall tour. We had an early tour time and got there early to get some nice photos. During the tour we saw the room where the Declaration of Independence was signed! Wow, how amazing.
Up next was a walking tour through the old part of the city. We started at the house of Betsy Ross, then onto the skinny old streets of the 1700s, other buildings involved in the early US government, and ended at the Benjamin Franklin grave. We then hit up the Liberty Bell and snapped a few photos.
We ended the day drinking in North Philly and enjoy several beers. And ended the evening in fashion with a greasy Philly Cheesesteak.

Oct 27 - Centralia, PA
We left straight from work and headed south for Philadelphia. It's normally a 2-3 hour trip, but instead Nadine & Dave had some stops along the way.
The first stop was Centralia, PA....a ghost town due to coal fire burning below ground. A trash fire start in the 1960s, and then sparked a coal mine fire that could not be put out. As such, the town was deserted, and also major roads were re-routed. And Old Route 61 has been turned into a canvas and people have drawn all over the street.
While driving our next stop, we went through the town of Mahanoy City where the first cable tv network was created in 1948...neat! We next went through Pottsville, PA and visited Yuengling Brewery. It was closed when we got there, but a late night tour as happening and they invited us to join along, but we didn't have the time as we other stops to see!
Our next stop was Reading, PA...with the famous pagoda. It was dark out by the time we got there, so you could see the pagoda from a distance. We climbed to the high point of the city, snapped a few photos overlooking the scenic view, then hopped back in!
Up next was a our final stop in Intercourse, PA...hard to not to giggle when traveling through this city. We enjoyed all the funny signs and snapped a few silly photos :)
We then drove into Philadelphia to our AirBNB. We grabbed some dinner, and walked up to the roof and overlooked the skyline. We were excited for our plans to tackle the history of Philadelphia tomorrow!

Oct 14 - Michigan/PSU
In mid-October, we decided to head to Pittsburgh to see the Brookins boys on Friday and Saturday morning, and then head to State College to catch the Michigan-Penn State football game.
Dave found tickets on craigslist in Jackson, MI...so he asked Tanya to pick them up and then overnight them to Pittsburgh to arrive on Friday. Well they arrived on Saturday instead, it was stressful!
After playing with the boys, we took off for State College, with the M flag flying! We arrived into town and it was packed! We first headed off for some famous State College ice cream, then we headed to a Penn State tailgate to join friends of Becky (we were booed an harassed the whole way there!)
We then headed into the stadium, with 105,000+ people and cheered on the Wolverines. Penn State jumped out quickly to a 14-0 lead, then Michigan battled back to 14-13. But that would be it for Michigan, final score 42-13! We had a blast, and then safely drove back to Scranton.

We grabbed Ice Cream before the game...even they were ready!
Then we tailgated with some of Becky's Friends!
Ready for the game!
It was a whiteout for sure!
